O God, how we thirst.
We thirst like the earth
burning these past days with wildfires.
We thirst for your cooling, quenching waters
to run through our own parched places.
We thirst for answers to the violence
in Ivory Coast and everywhere around the world;
for ways to assuage the ongoing trauma
of natural disaster’s wreckage;
for relief from constant worry
about all the many woes to which we are witness.
O Christ, fill our cups with living water
so we might revel in the crocus’s declaration of life;
so we might dance wildly with the wind in springing branches;
so we might know that resurrection IS—in the midst of death and fear.
O Spirit, help us to draw from
the deep, deep well that is you
so we may drink
and share that living water with all.
