Prayer for Today—Bones

based on Ezekiel 37

We lay before you our prayers, Holy One—

prayers like gifts; like offerings.

         Here we offer our fears

                  as loved ones face illness, uncertainty.

         Here we offer our hopes

                  for all your beloved creation.

We lay before you our very bones—

Can they live, O God? You know…

We try hard in our physical beings to serve you, Holy One—

flesh and sinew living love to you.

We have built and maintained this church—the bones

         that give strength and structure—

so we might act out in your world.

But can these bones live without your breath of Spirit?

Holy One, breathe in us. Breathe that we may be

         the living flesh on the bones of this building;

         that we may have the strength to serve your love.
