Prayer for Today--Our Rock

You are our rock, O God, and our strength.
When all else becomes unsteady in this life, we can turn to you—
         even when we feel we cannot name you or clearly discern your presence,
you are there, holding us firmly in your unyielding love.

You are our Rock, O God, and our strength.
Even when we pick up stones to hurl them at our fears—
          when we strike out at those things that chip away at the secure fortresses we have built;
when we throw words to hurt rather than heal—
you are there, the strength underlying our human fragility.

You are our Rock, O God, and our strength.
When we see the brokenness lying at our feet—
         from the enormity of war, hunger and flood
         to the seeming smallness of our individual cares—
still you are there, our rock and our strength.

Hold us in your secure and solid love, O God:
     heal our broken places within these frail bodies and throughout the world.

Hold us in your secure and solid love, Our Mother:
     as we pray together: Our Father…

Love this. How often we hold the stone in our hands ready to throw it -
