Jacob's Encounter--2 Hymns

As I was meditating with one of the scripture texts for Sunday (Genesis 28:10-19a), I felt the call to creativity. There is something about Jacob/Israel's story that inspires me every time.
As I searched for hymns, I realized none with which I'm familiar quite fit what I was seeking... so I've prepared these two hymn texts, with familiar tunes for Sunday's service.
If you wish to use them, please credit them appropriately and post here to let me know where and for what purpose (worship, meditation, etc.) you've used them. Many thanks!

Surely God Is in this Place

                 DIX—7777 w refrain

Jacob fled his brother’s wrath, placed a rock beneath his head,
slept and dreamt in desert  night; angels, ladders, promises.
Moments beyond time and space:
surely God is in this place!

Hearing words of future hope, Jacob woke to claim anew
covenant of God’s great love blessing him to seek what’s true.
Moments beyond time and space:
surely God is in this place!

There are instants when we, too, can perceive beyond the veil:
quiet myst’ry, shining awe, essence words can’t quite  reveal.
Moments beyond time and space:
surely God is in this place!

Holy Ground
               to the tune NETTLETON--8787D

Come and worship in God’s dwelling,
here in silence and in sound.
For, in truth, God’s Word’s among us,
within and all around.
In this place where we can gather,
where our souls in love are found,
God will meet us, loving greet us,
for this place is holy ground.

We might seek out times of splendor
wishing we could see God’s face,
as when Jacob slept unknowing
in God’s house and dreamed of grace;
or like Moses, as the bush burn’d,
listened rapt, his  feet unbound,
all unknowing we can stumble
’pon that threshold: holy ground.

God has made us to desire such
awe and peace, crave God’s embrace.
So with ardor we pursue the
secret search for  sacred space.
It is here in gathered worship
and our Rocky Mountain home.
It is truly all around us,
for God’s world is holy ground!
