O God how we wrestle with this life!
We wrestle one another
like partisan politicians eking out a debt solution.
We wrestle within ourselves, with the particularities of this or that:
which is the better path, when all seem okay but none that great?
We wrestle with you, O God—
just trying to get by and wondering
what it is you really want from us;
how we can live up to that.
We wrestle, Holy One, and we grow weary.
So in the uncertainties of life, bless us with guidance.
In grief and loss, bless us with healing.
In the fear of tomorrow’s challenges, bless us with strength.
In the places we have missed the mark—
done wrong or done nothing at all—bless us with forgiveness.
And in all our striving, remind us that you, O Spirit,
wrestle with us, and we are not alone.
