Advent Thought

Advent is one of my favorite seasons--rituals, candles, evergreens, waiting and hoping and shadows and light. This year my practice is to read Daily Feast: Meditations from Feasting on the Word. This morning's meditation has grasped my attention boldly, and I feel strongly the desire to share--so here is part of it. Blessings and peace to all.

Martin B. Copenhaver reflects on Mark 1:1-8 by writing:
By starting with an adult John awaiting an adult Jesus, Mark reminds us that Jesus grew up. It is an important reminder for such a time, when it is a temptation to linger too long at the manger. A baby can be demanding, but in the case of this baby, the adult will become infinitely more so.

And the prayer that closes today's meditation:
When I tend to linger at the manger, nudge me forward to a deeper understanding of the demands you make upon my life. Amen.
