Still-Speaking God,
we hear you calling our spirits through the voice of
slow-creeping daylight
and the wings of low-flying geese.
We hear you calling to our spirits through the
upraised chatter of infants
and through the unequaled compassion of 4-legged companions.
Holy One, we hear your still-speaking voice calling to us
through the silence of the dead by violence around the globe;
and through the same silence of grief in our midst.
We hear you calling to us
from our collective past:
from the teachings and hopes of Martin Luther King, Jr..
We hear you calling to us
from the present people of Haiti,
now 2 years after a terrible earthquake,
and where reconstruction remains so slow.
And we hear you calling to us from the heart of our own country,
as presidential debates call values into question
and beg for grace-full leadership.
You call to our spirits, Still-Speaking God,
through the voices of organ and scripture;
through the voices of clasped hands and shared space;
through the voices of our own need for deep healing and wholeness.
Speak to our spirits with your peace, O Spirit.
Speak and help us to listen
…and respond.
And so we join our own voices to pray together:
Amen.
